Why switch to organic and sustainable tea?

Why switch to Organic and sustainable tea?

This National Tea Day 2023, we are encouraging more customers to shop for organic produce. Just by switching up your tea selection, you could be helping the planet and improving your health at the same time - without compromising the taste of your cuppa.

There has been a shift in the last few years towards adopting a healthier diet and having a better understanding of where our food comes from. As such, organic products (grown under a system of agriculture with no chemical fertilisers, pesticides or GMOs) have seen a surge in sales. The Soil Association’s 2023 Organic Market Report states that the organic food market has increased its value to £3.1 billion - the highest it’s ever been. This demonstrates the real demand for products that mitigate climate change and promote biodiversity, whilst providing more nutrients and less chemicals to our diets.

Say No To Plastic Teabags

Tea is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world. In Britain alone, we drink approximately 100 million cups every day! However, most people aren’t aware that the majority of teabags contain elements of polypropylene plastic, which are added during the heat sealing process. Unfortunately, these thermoplastics don’t break down easily once they are returned to nature. Research shows that just one teabag can release 11.6 billion microplastics and 3.1 million nanoplastics into your cup, and then into our water systems. This is why we are constantly looking for the newest technology in teabags to make our teas as good for the planet as they are for you.

Luckily, NASA Corporation has developed NeoSoilon® teabags!

NASA Corporation launched NeoSoilon® in January 2020, a 100% Polylactic Acid (PLA) mesh filter made from 100% non-GMO sugarcane. NeoSoilon® is the perfect material to make teabags, as they can be joined at the seams ultrasonically, without the use of heat or plastic glue.

NeoSoilon® teabags offer us a real opportunity to reduce our impact on the environment whilst keeping our customers healthy with completely certified organic tea products. They are fully biodegradable and industrially compostable too!
