Refugee Week 2024

Refugee Week 2024

Since 1998, Refugee Week has celebrated the creativity, love, and resilience of refugees. As well as those who seek asylum while raising awareness of their challenges. This is a week to celebrate and encourage understanding between communities. This year is especially significant as it marks the 26th anniversary of the festival's origination! Allowing refugees to create dialogue and understanding about why people leave their homeland in search of safety and seek sanctuary abroad.

Here at NEMI Teas we strive to care and help others to our fullest capabilities. We’ve partnered with The Hotel School and Groundwork London to develop a program called “Changing Journeys”. This is a hospitality program for refugees which takes 10 weeks. This program takes place at TRAMPOLINE Cafe, which is located in Angel, London. The founder of NEMI Teas, Pranav started this cafe in order to help refugees and create community. TRAMPOLINE Cafe exclusively employs refugees, providing them with opportunities to integrate more smoothly into UK society. After refugees finish their training at TRAMPOLINE, we facilitate their placement into full-time jobs in collaboration with our employment partners and provide ongoing support during this transition period.

Moreover, at TRAMPOLINE Cafe, NEMI Teas has an extrainee, Yogi from Sri Lanka, who has set up his business in the cafe and serves his delicious cooking to others. He was a refugee that went through our 10 week program. We have been able to work with Yogi and share his love of food in London. Yogi’s story and recipes have allowed him to spread his awareness to others and NEMI’s message! Which continues to perpetuate the message of NEMI Teas support we wish to give to refugees!

Let us remind ourselves of a quote Malala said which relates to the “Our Home” theme; “To me, a home is where you feel loved, safe, and cherished.”- Malala Yousafzai. That is exactly why this day is so important, refugees have been displaced and moved out of their homes and it's important to reflect and take a moment in order to gain a greater understanding. NEMI Teas and TRAMPOLINE Cafe will continue to fight injustice and take strides to help others and be sustainable. While everyone has their own experiences and various access to power and resources. For refugee week it allows everyone to come and be together to create an interconnected ‘us’.

Let us take this time to celebrate those who continue to be brave and thrive!
