Sustainable Products Becoming the Norm

Sustainable Products Becoming the Norm

As many already know, we are impacting and damaging the environment with the decisions we make daily. The world seems to have fallen into a habit of not caring for the environment. The products we purchase and use are often wasteful and damage the environment. We are seeing the negative impacts through the global accumulation of waste and pollutants which results in climate change and harm to species around the world. The use of non-eco-friendly packaging emits toxic pollutants that affect the health of all living species and the earth. If we don’t resolve these environmental issues, then it could wipe the human race along with other organisms.

Did you know?

  • The average European person consumes about 4x more resources than someone in Africa and 3x more than someone in Asia. Europe only uses about half the resources as compared to people in the USA, Canada, and Australia.

  • The number of resources used by each person in Europe increased by 9.1% between 2000 and 2007. There is an average increase of about 17 tons per person annually. 8.2 billion tons of materials were used in Europe in 2017 and half of that was minerals and metals, while a quarter of it was fossil fuels and biomass.

  • Europeans continue to use more and more living area space. The average floor plan increased from 81 to 87 m2, while the average number of people per household has decreased from 2.8 to 2.4 all since 1990.

  • Although Europeans use public transportation more often rather than driving their personal cars, they drive more kilometers overall. This need for distance driving increases the use of private cars.

  • About 89 million tons of food is wasted each year in Europe, which is about 180 kg wasted per person. 25% of all food purchased ends up being thrown out and at least two-thirds of that waste could’ve been eaten.

So, what are the advantages of sustainable products?

  •     Lower costs

  •     Healthier living

  •     Better quality of life

  •     Lower maintenance

  •     Cost savings on energy bills

To become more sustainable, you can turn to the most used products in your household and reuse them to cut back on the amount of waste. Some of the most used products include décor, grocery bags, toilet paper, clothing, toys, moving boxes, cleaning products, etc. With individuals and businesses working at becoming more sustainable, we are making this world a healthier and better place to live on. If we continue to hurt the environment, we won’t see any good outcomes. We must begin to love, heal, and restore our planet because we only get one.

Sustainability is the future.
