What is Sustainability to us?

Plastic-free packaging

Which of our products are plastic free?

Recycling NatureFlex

Upcycling

Our journey towards compete sustainability does not stop at the biodegradability of the teabag itself, but spreads across all materials used in the packaging process. It took a lot of researching but we finally found a new material that we were happy with, which stood up to the quality we needed to keep our tea fresh, and most importantly, was completely plastic-free. And yes celebratory tea was shared amongst the team!

Both our teabags and loose-leaf tea are packed in a material called NatureFlex™. It uses films that are based strongly on renewable resources. NatureFlex™ films are based on cellulose. Cellulose is one of the most naturally abundant organic material and comes from renewable wood pulp, typically sourced from hard wood species such as eucalyptus. NatureFlex™ provides us with completely sustainable packaging while keeping your tea as fresh as ever.

NatureFlex™ films are fully certified to the American (ASTM D6400) and European (EN13432) norms for 100% compostable packaging. Proven to be suitable for home composting, they are also marine degradable.

We strive for the continued development of the “greenest” tea packaging possible. Here at NEMI Teas we offer a 100 percent zero-waste package, with all ingredients and packaging components suitable for composting or recycling. In fact, we were recognised by The Independent for our sustainable practices!

ALL OF THEM!! From the tea bag itself to the tubular container in which they are held, and all materials in between, we have gone completely and totally plastic-free and compostable.

Once you’re finished with your NatureFlex, bob your bag in your food waste bin so it can be industrially composted in 45 days. Our tubes are made of food-grade and are meant to be refilled with more of our teas or up-cycled to be used as a pen-stand, to keep your tooth-brushes or even keep your paint-brushes!
